Alice was born to Homer and Mata Heitzman on Dec. 21, 1917, in Emerson, Neb. Her younger twin, Eleanor Beacom, still resides in Sioux City. It was at Ft. Meade that Alice met Capt. Robert H. Richarz of the 4th Cavalry Division. They married in 1941 and remained in the U.S. Army with several stateside deployments. After discharge from the Army, they settled in Sioux City to raise their family of five children. Bob and Alice owned Richarz Hardware in Peters Park in Morningside for several years. Alice worked as an RN at Sunrise Manor for more than 20 years until she retired in 1985. Later that year, Alice and Bob relocated to Prescott to enjoy their retirement. She moved to Kansas City in 2015.

Throughout her life, she loved her family, caring for her cats, feeding and watching birds, and working in her yard.

Her surviving children are Lynn (Darrell) Jochum of St. Joseph, Mo., Kathryn (Greg) Wells of Kansas City, Bob Richarz of Prescott Valley, Ariz., and Tracy (Mike) Hintze of Salt Lake City, Utah. Also surviving are her twin sister, Eleanor Beacom of Sioux City; cousin, Densel (Muriel) Moseman of Emerson.
