SIOUX CITY | Robert L. Andersen, 80, of Sioux City passed away Monday, Oct. 12, 2015, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Mauer–Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa. The Rev. Bert Burwell will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Wasmer Post 241. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time today at the funeral home. Robert LeRoy Andersen was born on Aug. 17, 1935, in Le Mars, to Ole D. and Charlotte (Kloster) Andersen. He graduated from Le Mars High School in 1954. Robert enlisted in the U.S. Army on Sept. 20, 1955. He served on a surface to air missile (SAM) launching crew prior to earning his honorable discharge on Sept. 3, 1957. Robert returned to Le Mars and attended Westmar College.

On Sept. 24, 1959, Robert and Darlene Joyce Pritchett were united in marriage in Remsen, Iowa. Robert accepted a position with the Social Security Administration and the family lived throughout the United States. In 1975, Robert and his family moved to Sioux City where Robert served as the district manager of Northwest Iowa for Social Security. He retired in 2004.

In his spare time, Robert enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and yard work. He was also an avid Minnesota Vikings football fan. During his retirement years, he spent afternoons with his friends at various local establishments keeping in touch and sharing stories.

Robert will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Darlene of Sioux City; children, Cheryl Lorenzo and her husband, Christopher of Tacoma, Wash., Bryan Andersen and his wife, Takako of Salem, Ore., and Mark Andersen and his wife, Theresa of Del Rapids, S.D.; a brother, Richard Andersen and his wife, Ginger of Farmington, Minn.; sisters, Florence Grosenheider and Estella Herman, both of Le Mars; a sister-in-law, JoAnn Rowenhorst of Merrill, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Russell (Mary) Andersen, Ronald (Geraldine) Andersen, and Jerry Andersen; and sisters, Helen (Maurice) Harms, Hazel (Virgil) Johnson and Marlene Criswell.
