31 August 2004Bruce Pollema, 30, of Sioux City, formerly of Hull, Iowa, passed away Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, in an accident at Johnston, Iowa.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Reformed Church in Hull, with the Rev. Vernon Pollema officiating. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Hull. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 9 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are with Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.
Bruce was born May 5, 1974, at Sioux Center, the son of Wilmar and Betty (Van Den Top) Pollema. He was raised at Hull, where he attended the Hull Christian School and Western Christian High School. He also attended Killian College in Sioux Falls, S.D., the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa and the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in Des Moines.
He served in the U.S. Navy for two years and the Iowa National Guard for nine years, where he was a staff sergeant. He was a member of the Wegman-Koele American Legion Post in Hull. In earlier years, Mr. Pollema did construction work. Later he worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation, and he was currently with D.O.T. Law Enforcement in Sioux City.
In December of 1997 he married Teri Winter at Hull. They made their home in Ankeny, and later he moved to Sioux City. Bruce enjoyed woodworking, carpentry and golfing.
Survivors include his parents of Hull; two brothers and their wives, Waylon and Melissa, and their children, Carter, Samantha and Chandler and Brandon and Tami, and their children, Brandolyn, Tanner and Briley, all of Hull; and his grandparents, Bill and Tena Pollema of Hull and Bill and Jeanette Van Den Top of Rock Valley, Iowa.
Memorials may be directed to the Hull Christian School or Western Christian High School in Hull
