SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Marie N. Erickson, 82, of South Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jerry Gilbreath officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.

Marie was born March 10, 1925, on a farm near Danbury, Iowa, the daughter of Hans and Anna C. (Lubker) Meier. She moved with her family to Sioux City at the age of 8 and lived in the South Bottoms for several years. She attended Hobson and Woodrow Wilson Schools.

She married T.N. "Swede" Erickson on Nov. 14, 1946, in Sioux City. To this union four children were born. Her husband, Swede died Jan. 27, 2002, in South Sioux City. She put all of her heart and soul into raising her family. She worked for the South Sioux City School System in the cafeteria for several years.

She was member of First Lutheran Church. She loved to read and attended the book club at the South Sioux City Library with many of her friends. She took great pride in cooking and baking for her family.

Visiting with all of her friends and spending time with her family were the very important activities in her life. Her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-granddaughter all held a special place in her heart. She also loved going to Minnesota, where she spent many summers with her husband at lake Marion.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Michael "Mick" and Wanda Erickson of Naples, Fla.; three daughters and their husbands, Diane and Bill Drevs of Homer, Neb., Chris and Dave Gill of Jackson, Neb., and Carrie and Lee Novak of Homer; nine grandchildren, Michael J. Erickson, Jaimee Erickson Finney, Anna Drevs Uhl, Lisa Drevs Gilbert, Mindy, Tyler and Cody Gill, Marissa and Colton Novak; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Paul and Leo; and four sisters, Olga Schroeder, Elsie Schau, Annie Irish and Viola Meier.

Pallbearers will be Gary Blessing, Milt Peters, Sam Irish, Sheldon Evjen, Ryan Gilbert and Mike Uhl.
