17 September 2000Sloan, Iowa— Arthur L. Zachgo,80, of Sloan died Thursday, September 15, 2000, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Wood Funeral Home in Sloan with the Rev. Robert W. Fritzmeier officiating. Burial will be in Sloan Cemetery. Visitation will be noon until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Zachgo was born October 21, 1919, in Onawa, Iowa, the son of Arnold George and Stella (Klise) Zachgo. He grew up in the Sloan and Hornick areas and graduated in 1936 from Sloan High School. He farmed and raised livestock in the Sloan area. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946 in Africa and Eastern Europe. In 1950 he moved to Metairie, La., on the family farm and boarded horses and raised livestock until retiring in 1982. In 1995 he moved to Sioux City until moving to Sloan in 1997.
He was a past member of the American Legion and a volunteer in Louisiana. He enjoyed reading.
Survivors include two sisters, Laura Chesley of Sloan and Mabelle Lambert of Whiting, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Clifford and Barbara of Las Vegas and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances in infancy and Vera Miltenberger; two brothers, Fred and George.
