George A. Wright, 82, of Sioux City died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Larkin Morningside Funeral Home, with the Rev. Russell Senstad, associate pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will resume 11 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Wright was born April 18, 1917, in Yankton, S.D., the son of George and Stella May (Foland) Wright. He was raised in Yankton.
He married Lillian Stoller on April 25, 1937, in Lesterville, S.D.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
The couple moved to Sioux City from Scotland, S.D. in 1952. She died March 8, 1976, in Sioux City.
He was employed as a stationary engineer with Tri-State Produce, which was bought by Hubbard Milling Co. and started with Cargill Feed in 1971. He retired in 1982.
He was of the Lutheran faith. He was a former member of the American Legion in Scotland, S.D. and a member of Senior Citizen Center in Sioux City.
Survivors include three sons and their wives, George A. and Justine of Grandview, Mo., Curtis E. and Lori of Emerson, Nebr., and James L and Mary L of Sioux City; two daughters and their husbands, Rosalie and James Haines and Bernice and John Haines, all of Sioux City; a brother, Eddie of Yankton; three sisters, Hazel Hedelson of Sturgis, S.D., Ethel Ferdig and Alice and her husband, Leon Nelson, all of Pittsburg, Calif., 17 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Luther L; and a sister Margaret Craft.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
