Robert B. Wray, 80, of Sioux City, a former Sioux City treasurer, died Sunday, June 22, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Paul-Louis Arts officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Monahan Post 64.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m., today, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. at the Larkin Morningside Funeral Home.

Mr. Wray was born August 20, 1916, in Sioux City, the son of Omer and Lillian (Carrie) Wray. He graduated from Central High School in 1933. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal.

He was employed by the Sioux City Journal prior to joining the service. He was also employed with the city finance department for 27 years, serving as the city treasurer from 1962 to 1980.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a 50 year member of the American Legion Monahan Post 64.

Survivors include two nephews, Robert Bender of Rockford, Ill., and Richard Bender of Kansas Coty, Mo., four nieces, Virginia Griffith of Citrus Heights, Calif., Karen Chamberlain of Geona, Nebr., Norma Jean Cejauskas of Grand Island, Nebr., and Gayle Bender of Geona, Nebr.; and several other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Bender and a brother, Donald Wray.

Pallbearers will be Richard and Robert Bender, Vito Cejauska, Joe Evan and Owen Jones.

Memorials in his name may be directed to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
