28 May 1943Memorial Rites to Pay Tribute to Capt. Mackey
Members of Westlawn Presbyterian church will pay tribute to Capt. Joseph L. Mackey, 802 Nebraska Street, who was killed in Africa, with a memorial service at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon. Rev. G. Scott Porter, pastor of the church will be the speaker.
Capt. Mackey was born October 3, 1911, in Fowler, Illinois. He was a graduate of Central High School and formerly was employed in The Journal mailing department. He was a lieutenant in the Iowa National Guard and was promoted to the rank of captain while stationed in Ireland.
According to word received by the widow, Capt. Mackey died “As a result of wounds suffered in action.”
