15 January 2001Kenneth F. Donohue Sr., 75, of Sioux City died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at his residence following a brief illness.
Services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with the Revs. Thomas Geelan and Michael Larkin officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. and a rosary at 7:30 p.m., all at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Mr. Donohue was born Feb. 3, 1925, in Sioux City, the son of John Joseph "Jiggs" and Margaret "Jo" (Coleman) Donohue. He attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School until moving to Miles City, Mont., in the seventh grade. Upon graduation from Custer County High School in 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving in a hospital in Okinawa, Japan, during World War II.
He attended Morningside College and Iowa State University before starting a 41-year career at the Sioux City Stockyards where, as owner of Rice Brothers Livestock Commission Company, he specialized as a cattle salesman.
He married Irma A. Dunn on May 28, 1949, in Sioux City. He was president of the Sioux City Livestock Exchange from 1963 to 1964. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters and their husbands, Mary and Gary Uhl of Sioux City, Terry and Bob Wolter of San Diego, Cindy Donohue-Greer and J.P. Greer of Spencer, Iowa, and Rita and Neal Post of Canyon Lake, Calif.; four sons, Kenneth Jr. and his wife, Cindi of Chandler, Ariz., Dr. Michael and his wife, Kathy of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Patrick of Sausalito, Calif., and Mark of Seattle, Wash.; three brothers, Phil of Sioux Falls, Jack of Sacramento, Calif., and Tom of Denver; a sister, JoAnne Loughlin of Cherokee, Iowa; 22 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to the Hospice of Siouxland or Siouxland Regional Cancer Center.
