Thomas "Tweet" Everingham, 71, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, March 20, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Thomas was born July 8, 1936, in Sioux City, the son of James H. and Phyllis I. (Norton) Everingham. He grew up in Sioux City and attended Cathedral Grade School and graduated from Heelan High School in 1954. He was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany from 1958 to 1960. He was later honorably discharged in 1964. Upon his return to Sioux City, he enrolled at Iowa Western Tech from 1966 to 1968, where he studied electronics.

On July 29, 1967, he married Elizabeth "Betty" Noonan at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The couple purchased Tweets Embassy in 1968 and continued to operate the tavern until they closed it in 1979. During that time, the couple bought some land in the Westfield, Iowa, area and built their new home.

They were foster parents to children in the area. He also enjoyed cooking meals for friends and family. He loved having dinner parties. He was a dedicated fisherman with his son and friends and also enjoyed upland game bird hunting. In later years, he appreciated viewing and catching wildlife on film. He was an avid sports fan. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church while they lived in Sioux City and later St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Everingham of Sioux City; a son and his wife, Tom and Christy Everingham and their children, Hannah and Michaela of Westfield, Iowa; brothers and sisters, Patricia Everingham of Sioux City, James Everingham of Beverly Hills, Fla., Sandra and Ray Casey of South Sioux City and Mary Jo Everingham of Lakeview Terrace, Calif.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. Michael and Marlys Noonan of Portland, Ore., Monica and Tom Kruse of Carroll, Iowa, Dr. Joan Liddell of Denver, Colo., and Dr. Theresa and Dave Liddell of Juno Beach, Fla., and Karmen (Noonan) Schoelerman of Hartley, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, Emmet and Veronica Noonan; and a brother-in-law, John T. Noonan.
