27 December 2000Jeanette Calhoun, 80, of Sioux City died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at her residence.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Riverside United Methodist Church, with Chaplain Michael Inman of Hospice of Siouxland officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Mrs. Calhoun was born Feb. 29, 1920, in Mapleton, Iowa, the daughter of Harry E. and Jessie (Currie) Houchins. She was raised in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School.
She married Leslie J. "Kelly" Calhoun on Sept. 2, 1941, in South Sioux City. She was employed with Arrow Stage Lines from 1965 to 1984. She was then employed with the Siouxland Senior Center from 1985 to 2000. Her husband died Nov. 12, 1964, in Sioux City.
She was a member of B.P.W., Quota Club, Junior Achievement, Mayflower Congregational Church, American Legion Auxiliary and St. Luke's Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. She was a former member of Riverside United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Michael and Mary of Dublin, Calif., and Jeffrey and Loraine of South Sioux City; two sisters, Ferne Lapora of Sioux City, and Maxine Amberg of Torrington, Wyo.; and four grandchildren, Sloane, Merritt, Diana and James Calhoun.
She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Ed and Al Houchins; and a sister, Helen Deemer.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Lapora, Matt, Joel and Wayne Max, Jim Adams and Jerry Steen.
