Harry "Spike" McClure, 88, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, in Sioux City following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at

Riverside United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Merrill G. Muller and Michael Shaffer officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8:30 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8:30 p.m., at Christy-Smith Funeral Home, Berkemier Chapel.

Mr. McClure was born Sept. 24, 1911, in Walthill, Neb., the son of Aaron and Cordie (Hughes) McClure. He moved with his family to Wakonda, Okla., as a child. They returned to Walthill a few years later. He attended Ball School in rural Decatur, Neb. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He married Anna Wedgewood. He was employed with Kaplan Wholesale Grocery Co. for 32 years, retiring in 1968. He was then employed with Dorman Construction, retiring in 1979.

He was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7690 in North Sioux City, where he was a past commander, and Tri-State Ceramic Association. He served as head umpire and groundskeeper of Westside Little League for 17 years. He enjoyed fishing, auto racing and hunting.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Jack and Marie of Sioux City; two daughters and their husbands, Mildred and Ron Tietsort of Rockford, Ill., and Pat and Tom Eslick of Sioux City; 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Bob and Dick; a foster son, Terry Welchel; four sisters and a great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Jake and James McClure, Mark Tietsort, Tim and Troy Eslick and Corey Frye
