Hazel L. Birmingham, 83, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Wednesday, June 9, 1999, at her home following a long illness.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at All Saints Catholic Church with the Rev. Charles Lang officiating. Cedar Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangments.

Mrs. Birmingham was born Feb. 13, 1916, in Lemmon, S.D., the daughter of Ira M. and Cora E. (Meyers) Joy. She married William E. Birmingham Jan. 21, 1939, in Sioux City. He died in 1996. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Sioux City.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, William M. and Sally of Cedar Rapids and James M. and Connie of Marion; two daughters, Joy E. Donahue of River Forest, Ill., and Connie J. Galles and her husband, James of Tokyo, Japan; a sister, Elner Smith of Eugene, Ore.; two sisters-in-law, Marion and Peg; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Marguerite Reed; a son-in-law, Donald F. Donahue and a granddaughter, Christy Barry.

Memorials may be made in her name to Hospice of Mercy in Cedar Rapids or Siouxland Hospice in Sioux City.
