Donna Kathleen “Kathy” (Robinson) McHugh, 61, of Smithland, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, Oct. 23, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton after a year-long battle with lung cancer.

Kathy, daughter of Mary Lee Christman, was born on Oct. 11, 1953, in Iowa City. Kathy’s family lived in Sioux City until she was five, then they moved to Oto and later Smithland. She attended Westwood Community School in Sloan.

Kathy made her home in Smithland and had worked at Interbake Foods, Gateway, and MCI. In addition, she had taken C.N.A. classes in Mapleton. Most recently, Kathy worked at the Smithland Country Store until declining health forced her to quit in November 2013.

Kathy enjoyed crocheting, gardening, and collecting eagles. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with family.

Kathy is survived by her daughter, Ginger Robinson of Sioux City; three grandchildren: Jake Hinrickson and fiancé, Desirae, of Le Mars, Samantha Hinrickson of Onawa, and Serenity Robinson of Sioux City; two great-grandchildren: Leela Hinrickson and Ayden Hayes; her mother, Mary Christman of Smithland; one brother, Richard “Rick” Robinson and wife, Lisa, of Shelbyville, Ind.; one niece and her family, Jennifer Yingst and husband, Shane, and their sons, Braedon, Clayton and Colin, all of Whiting; and special friends: Brian “Pee Wee” Palmer and Don Hanks.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Delma Nelson; one brother, Ronald “Ron” Harbeck on Oct. 17, 2011; stepfather, Charles Christman; an aunt, Carol Conlon-Austin; and an uncle, Arnold Robinson.

Memorial services were 10 a.m, Monday, Oct. 27, at Root Funeral Home – Willman Chapel in Rodney with Pastor Karen Handke officiating.

Music for the service included recorded selections “Address In The Stars,” “One More Day,” “Angel,” and “I Will Always Love You.”

Jake Hinrickson served as urn bearer.
