SIOUX CITY | Dorothy Merle "Dot" King, 73, of Holts Summit, Mo., formerly of Smithland, Iowa, and Sioux City, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014, at home surrounded by her loving family.

A memorial service will be announced at a later time. Arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary in Jefferson City, Mo. Condolences may be sent online to www.freemanmortuary.com.

Dot was born on Feb. 11, 1941, in Beauregard, Miss., a daughter of Van Jay and Elma Flynn Smith. Dot received her education at Beauregard School.

She was married on Dec. 19, 1958, in Phoenix, Ariz., to Joseph D. King, who preceded her in death on Oct. 4, 2014. She was employed as assistant manager at Motel 6 for several years. She was also an Avon representative.

Survivors include a son, Donny King (Jennifer) of Seattle, Wash.; four grandchildren, Kayla King, Heather King, Kory King and Hollie King; three sisters, Van Fairchild (Doc), Myrtle Lambert (Gerald), and Lura "Cookie" Barlow (Chester), all of Mississippi; brother, Harry Smith (Vicky) of Louisiana; brother-in-law, Jim King; and sister-in-law, Norma King.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lisa King on Oct. 18, 1999; brothers, Don Smith and Willis Smith; and sister, Mary McGee.
