SIOUX CITY | Joyce Kaye Herdliska, 71, of Chicago, Ill., formerly of Sioux City, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, at her home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 3012 Jackson St., in Sioux City. The Rev. Daniel Rupp will officiate. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 9:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Joyce Kaye was born on Thursday, March 4, 1943, in Sioux Falls, S.D., the daughter of the late Ormal and Blanch ( Bradenburg) Herdliska. She was raised in Sioux City and attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School. She graduated from Heelan High School in 1961. Joyce graduated from St. Vincent's School of Nursing in 1964. After nursing school she moved to Chicago. While in Chicago she worked as an R.N. before joining Blue Cross/Blue Shield where she worked for many years. Joyce retired in 2007.

She was a former member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and attended the St. Vincent DePaul Church in Chicago. Joyce loved the theater, bicycling, traveling, cooking and entertaining. Joyce did volunteer work at the PAWS Animal Shelter and at Deborah's Place shelter for the homeless.

Surviving are her sister, June and Leroy Zeising of Sioux City; a niece, Stephanie and Norman Balke of Iowa City, Iowa; a nephew, Troy and Rebecca Zeising of Omaha; and grandnieces and nephews, Molly, Kayla, Alexander, Breanna, Ashley, Garrett, David and Tim.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial has been established in her name for the PAWS Animal Shelter and for Deborah’s Place for the homeless.
