Donald Joseph Anderson, 76, of Sioux City died Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center following a lengthy illness.

There will be no services. The body will be cremated. Burial will be at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

Mr. Anderson was born in Jackson, Neb. on Nov. 29, 1931, to Fred Anderson and Edith (Lapage) Anderson. He loved most of his life in Sioux City.

He joined the National Guard in 1951. He helped evacuate families during the flood that hit Siouxland in 1952 as a National Guardsman. His unit was activated on Dec. 8, 1952, and he served in Germany for 15 months as a cook. He received two medals. He was discharged in April 1954.

He worked at Sioux City Battery Factory as a machine operator from 1949 to 1952. He built new houses for several years in the Siouxland area as a carpenter.

Survivors include two sons, Robert and Michael; a daughter, Cindy; a grandson, Travis of Sioux City; two brothers, John and Arthur Anderson of Sioux City; a sister, Catherine Housh of Salix, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Francis, Darrel, Howard and Charles Anderson; a nephew, Robert Anderson; and a special friend of several years, Judy Durbin
