Lois O. Eidsness, 77, of Brookings, S.D., formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday, March 9, 2008, at Brookview Manor in Brookings.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Rudes Funeral Home in Brookings. Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Our Savior Lutheran Cemetery, Henry, S.D. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.rudesfuneralhome.com.

Lois Odetta Fugle was born to Ole and Clara (Rodi) Fugle on Dec. 2, 1930. She was raised with her brother, Marvin, in the Willow Lake, S.D., area. Later, the family moved to a farm north of Naples, S.D. She attended grade school in Naples for a couple of years before transferring to a country school near her family's farm. She was confirmed at Our Savior Lutheran church in rural Henry, S.D. the then attended Henry High School, where she graduated in 1948.

In June 1948, she married James Sandvik. The couple made their home in Henry for some years, where she gave birth of Cheryl and Arlan. They moved to St. Paul, Minn., in 1956, where James attended college and Luther Seminary. They had another, daughter, Jamie, while in St. Paul. After James finished school, the couple made their homes in Morris, Ill., Akron, Iowa, Sioux City and Hanlontown, Iowa, over the years.

On Nov. 11, 1995, she married the Rev. Gene Eidsness. They spent brief periods of time doing interim work in several churches. They also spent their winters in Arizona. She fell victim to Alzheimer's disease and was a resident of Brookview Manor for the last year and a half.

She was a friendly person who enjoyed laughing with her friends as well as doing all kinds of craft work. She completed two hardanger baptismal dresses for her families and she loved to travel.

Survivors include her husband, Gene of Brookings; a daughter, Cheryl (Carl) Thaemert of Denver, Colo.; a son, Arlan (Luanne) Sandvik of Nipomo, Calif.; a daughter, Jamie (Mike) Zimmerman of Sioux City; stepchildren, Carla Merchen of Brookings, David (Deb) Eidsness of Brookings, Kari (John) Anderson of Lake Preston, S.D., and Doug (Laura) Eidsness of Brookings; seven grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and 10 great-step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Marvin Fugle.
