SIOUX CITY | Willard "John" Gruber, 67, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Winnebago Reformed Church in Winnebago, Neb., with the Rev. Lowell Tenclay officiating. Burial will be in Winnebago Cemetery. Visitation will be until service time today, with Mr. Curtis Free in charge, at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender, Neb.

John was born on April 17, 1947, in Sioux City. He received his high school equivalency diploma on Aug. 18, 1983. He received certificates from Iowa Lakes Community College in August 1983, and a truck driver training certificate from Western Iowa Tech Community College on Jan. 18, 1984. His occupation was as a commercial driver in Sioux City and Omaha.

He is survived by his son, Shane Gruber of Sioux City; his sisters, Elizabeth Wade of Omaha, and Kay Gish of Missouri; his companion of 13 years, Dolores Rave; a grandson Kieran Kearnes of Sioux City; four stepchildren, Margo Kearnes, Curtis Kearnes, Scott Kearnes, and Casey Kearnes; numerous grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Gruber; his mother, Edna Stevens; brothers, Louis Hill, and Milton Hill; a sister, Barbara Hill; and three stepsons, Steven Kearnes Jr., Faron L. Kearnes, and Kenneth "Kenny" Kearnes.

Pallbearers will be Curtis Kearnes, Aaron Rave, Gordon Rave, Raul Loera Sr., Adonis Kearnes, and Donnie Ewing
