MOVILLE, Iowa | Norman O. Petersen, 92, of Moville died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, at Bickford Cottage in Sioux City.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Moville United Methodist Church. The Rev. Ed Frank will officiate. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Navy. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of McCulloch Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Moville.

Norman was born on Sept. 10, 1922, in Anthon, Iowa, the son of Fred and Lena Marie (Claussen) Petersen. He was raised in the Anthon area. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

On March 2, 1947, he married Dorothy Bleil. After he returned from the service, he farmed on the family farm for more than 63 years. Dorothy died on Sept. 27, 2010, in Sioux City.

He was a member of Moville United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post 303 in Moville.

He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Ferdig of Moville; two sons, John and Marilyn Petersen of Columbus, Neb., and Gregg and Darla Petersen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; five grandchildren, Jackie and Mike Nickolaus, Amy and Mark Vance, Jessie and Chris Mulligan, Matt Anderson, and Andy Petersen; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Clarence Petersen of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; son-in-law, Dennis Ferdig; his sister, Grace Countryman; and his brothers, Glen and Elmer
