CORRECTIONVILLE, Iowa | Joseph D. King, 77, of Holts Summit, Mo., formerly of Correctionville, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014, at Capital Region Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Memorial services will be at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary in Jefferson City, Mo. Condolences may be sent online to www.freemanmortuary.com.

Joe was born on June 1, 1937, in Correctionville, the son of Aaron and Farsina (Martin) King. He was a graduate of Smithland Consolidated School in Smithland, Iowa, and served in the U.S. Navy after high school.

He was married in December 1958 to Dorothy M. "Dot" Smith in Phoenix, Ariz. A resident of the Jefferson City area for the past 15 years, Joe was employed as a hotel manager at Motel 6 until his retirement. Before his family moved to Jefferson City, Joe was well traveled and had worked in numerous states as a hotel manager with Motel 6. He had previously been employed as a wholesale hardware buyer in Iowa and Illinois.

He was a volunteer firefighter and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Sioux City. Joe had a strong faith in the Methodist church and he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be known for always wanting to share a story.

Survivors include his wife, Dot King of Holts Summit; son, Donny King (wife, Jennifer) of Seattle, Wash.; brother, Jim King of South Bend, Ind.; four grandchildren, Kayla King, Heather King, Kory King and Hollie King; four sisters-in-law, Norma King, Van Fairchild (husband, Doc), Myrtle Lambert (husband, Gerald), and Lura "Cookie" Barlow (husband, Chester); and brother-in-law, Harry Smith (wife, Vicky).

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa King on Oct. 18, 1999; brother, Jay King; and sister, Janet Summers.
