OTO, Iowa | Una Mae Pippitt, 85, of Oto was gathered to her people on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014.

Per Una's wishes, the body has been cremated. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave. Online condolences may be left at www.waterburyfuneralserviceinc.com.

Una's humble life began on Oct. 4, 1928, in Mondamin, Iowa, the daughter of Rueben and Vera Marshall. She grew up in a loving home in River Sioux, Iowa, and graduated high school in Little Sioux, Iowa. She obtained her teaching certificate in Denison, Iowa, and taught school in a one room school house in rural Crawford County, Iowa.

Una married Jim Pippitt on June 2, 1948, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple raised their children and farmed in rural Harrison and Woodbury counties in Iowa. Una raised chickens, attended gardens, sold Avon in rural Woodbury County, and worked as a nurse's aide at Countryside Retirement Home in Sioux City. After retiring from the nursing home, she volunteered at the AID Center in Sioux City, helping to distribute food, clothing, and house hold goods to the needy.

Una's posterity includes five children, Randy and his wife, Leoda Pippitt of St. Louis, Mo., Lynn and her husband, Harold Johnson of Sioux City, Peg and her husband, Mike Johnson of Sioux City, Joe and his wife, Evelyn Pippitt of Sioux City, and Lewis and his wife, Dawn Pippitt of South Sioux City; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren, with one more due in February 2015.

Those awaiting to welcome her to eternal peace and rest include her husband, Jim Pippitt; her parents, Rueben and Vera Marshall; her sister, Marilyn; other friends and relatives; and many souls she attended to during her career as a nurse's aide.
