Richard Matt of Montgomery, Texas passed away on July 11, 2014, in Conroe, Texas. Richard was born on February 9, 1947 in Battle Creek, Iowa to Alice Collins and Earl Matt. He graduated from Maple Valley Community School in Danbury, Iowa in 1965 where he held the record for many years for the most rebounds in basketball. Richard joined the United States Air Force in 1967, and was deployed to Vietnam in July, 1968, where he performed duties as an x-ray technician. He returned from his tour of duty in June, 1969, and pursued his education at the University of Iowa where he graduated with a Bachelor's of Business Administration degree in December, 1973. Richard began his accounting career with Peat Marwick Mitchell in Des Moines, Iowa; continued on to Kansas City, Kansas working for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline; and transferred to Houston, Texas in 1979, to work for their parent company, Dixilyn-Field Drilling Company, as their International Tax Manager. Richard went on to work for Global Marine and then eventually retired from Western Atlas as the Director of International Taxes.

Richard married Shirley Feauto on May 4, 1968, in Sioux City, Iowa. Richard and Shirley both retired to Montgomery County, Texas in 2008, on Lake Conroe to enjoy their love of the lake. Richard also enjoyed boating, wildlife watching, sports, and his dogs.

Richard is survived by his wife, Shirley; his daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and David Andree of Schertz, TX and four grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Louie and Jerri Matt, of Lee's Summit, Missouri; sister and brother-in-law, Marsha and Ted Yarrian, of Omaha, Nebraska and sister, Mary Hall of Scribner, Nebraska, along with several nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Alice Matt; his brothers, Jack, Wayne, Roger and Billy Matt; and sisters, Shirley and Rita.

Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 109 North Frazier in Conroe, Texas on July 17, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you send donations to the American Heart Association, 10900-B Stonelake Blvd., Suite 320, Austin, TX 78759.
