SIOUX CITY | Elaine J. Rowenhorst, 74, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014, eight days after her 55th wedding anniversary, at Dougherty Hospice Health in Sioux Falls, S.D., after a lengthy illness.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. James Travis officiating. Private family graveside service will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 10 a.m. until service time Friday at church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.

Elaine was born on May 16, 1940, in Sioux Falls, S.D., the daughter of Carl and Helen (Pfeiffer) Thorson. She grew up in Sioux Falls, where she graduated from Washington High School.

On Sept. 22, 1959, she married Lawrence Rowenhorst Jr. at Zion Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. The couple lived most of their married life in Sioux City, except for 18 years in Merrill, Iowa. Elaine worked as a beauty operator for Gingham Girl Beauty Shop for 10 years. She then went to work for Pratt-Younglove Agency as an employment counselor. Elaine retired in 1990 from I.B.M. Corporation.

Elaine and Larry enjoyed traveling through the U.S. and Canada. At home she enjoyed gardening and cooking. In earlier years, she was involved with church activities such as quilting and teaching Sunday school.

Survivors include her husband, Larry; a daughter, Laurie Faunce of Flag Pond, Tenn.; a son, Corby Rowenhorst and his wife, Diane of Jonesborough, Tenn; three grandchildren, Kirsten Shrader, Raini Mae Rowenhorst and Makay J. Rowenhorst; and two great-grandchildren, Whitney and Justus Shrader.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ken; and a sister, Carolyn.

Memorials in Elaine's name may be directed to Calvary Lutheran Church.
