SERGEANT BLUFF | Burton E. Baker, 92, of Sergeant Bluff died Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, in Clemson, S.C. following a brief illness.

Services will be at a later date.

Mr. Baker was born on Aug. 29, 1922, in Sergeant Bluff, to the parents of Lee and Emma Baker. He married Jean Jorgensen on Aug. 1, 1945, in Salix, Iowa. Mr. Baker farmed in Sergeant Bluff and also worked at the Area Education Agency in Sioux City.

Mr. Baker was a lifetime member of the Sergeant Bluff United Methodist Church and served on the church board for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Jean of Clemson; a son, Gary and his wife, Beth of Salem, S.C.; a daughter, Janet and her husband, Danny of Ridgway, Colo.; four granddaughters; and nine great-grandchildren.
