SIOUX CITY | Stanley L. Surber, 60, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at a local hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at New Life Community Church, 4800 Stone Ave., in Sioux City. A luncheon will follow the service in the fellowship hall. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Stanley was born on Feb. 12, 1953, in Moorhead, Iowa, to William and Anna Mae (Sorensen) Surber.

Stanley was married to Valerie Steinhauer from Oct. 27, 1972 to June 19, 1977. He was later married to Betsy Jessup from Aug. 21, 1989 to 2007. He was united in marriage to Melinda Thoms on June 9, 2012. Stanley lived in Climbing Hill, Iowa before moving to Sioux City 25 years ago. Stanley worked for Rocktenn for more than 34 years.

He was a member of New Life Community Church. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing, camping, races, traveling, hunting, boating, bowling and campfires. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was very giving and had a big heart and gave to anyone in need.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Melinda; children, Tina (Danny) Lundquist, Danny Hansen, Klayton Hansen, Erin Malcolm and Brian Malcolm, all of Sioux City; grandchildren, Shawn, Shalynn and Emma Lundquist, Donny Merril and Josh Hansen, all of Sioux City; sisters, Darla Card and her fiance Jack Lobdell of Arkansas, and Marilyn (Randy) Haafke of Bronson, Iowa; nephews, Kirk (Megan) Haafke and their son Max of Sioux City, and Kyle (Kalynn) Haafke of Minnesota.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Shane Surber; good friends, Craig Sheer and Louise Porterfield; brother-in-law, Cliff Card; and mother-in-law, Wanda Thoms.

Memorials may be made to the family or New Life Community Church
