SIOUX CITY | Charlotte J. Graves, 92, of Sioux City, formerly of South Sioux City, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Spirit Retirement Home Chapel, with the Rev. Dennis Meinen officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery at South Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a vigil service at 7 p.m., all at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Charlotte was born Aug. 22, 1922, in Dell Rapids, S.D. She was the daughter of Jesse and Hazel (Hurd) Kennedy. Charlotte grew up on a farm in the Ponca, Neb., area and attended country school. She graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1940.

Charlotte married John E. "Jack" Graves on Feb. 18, 1943, in South Sioux City. The couple had three children, Terry, Shirley and Patty. Jack passed away on Dec. 11, 1981, in Sioux City.

Charlotte was a longtime member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in South Sioux City. She loved to play golf and the dice game bunco and spend time with her family. Charlotte also enjoyed gardening. She loved to sew and was a great seamstress, sewing for relatives and friends

Survivors include her three children, Terry Graves and his wife, Mary Helen, of Dakota Dunes, S.D., Shirley Parks and her husband, Bert, of Sioux City, and Patty Graves of Sioux City; two half sisters; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack; a sister, Jetta; and brothers, Wayne, Roger and Rene Kennedy.

Pallbearers will be Chris Graves, Christopher LaCroix, Mike LaCroix, Rick Nelson, Jack Graves and Jace Graves.

The family would like to thank everyone at Holy Spirit Retirement Home and Hospice of Siouxland for the wonderful care they gave to Charlotte.
