SIOUX CITY | Richard L. Ballantyne, 84, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014, at Countryside Senior Living Center.

Per his wishes, the body was cremated. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Richard was born on Dec. 5, 1929, in Sioux City, to Kenneth and Lydia (Carlberg) Ballantyne. He graduated from Central High School in 1948. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was married to Mae Gunderson in February 1955. To this union three daughters were born. He was later married to Jean McLeran in 1976. She preceded him in death in 2008. Richard and his father owned Ballantyne Keen Korner service station for many years. He also worked for the food service at Zenith and later was a bus driver for Sioux City Transit.

Richard loved to work. He loved Sioux City and never knew a stranger. He was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church.

He is survived by his three daughters, Lisa (Doug) Jensen of Phoenix, Ariz., Beth (Lance) Quinn of Moorpark, Calif., and Amy (Michael) Walsh of Roscommon, Ireland; his first wife, Mae Ballantyne of Little Rock, Ark.; Jean’s sons, Michael, Jay, Kelly, and Shawn McLeran; two sisters, Judy (Marvin) Terry of Chula Vista, Calif., and Helen Foreman of Wash.; and 18 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jean Ballantyne; and four brothers, Kenneth, Donald, Glen and Merle
