SIOUX CITY | Fred B. Locke, 62, of Sioux City, passed away Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, after an ongoing illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Lake Geneva, Wis. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences can be directed to meyerbroschapels.com.

Fred was born Dec. 1, 1951, in Chicago, the son of the late Fred and Maureen (McKenna) Locke. He attended St. Bede Grade School, St. Lawrence High School, and the University of Illinois, graduating in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science in finance.

Fred married the love of his life, Suzie Tepper, in Chicago on April 5, 1975. They recently celebrated 39 years of wedded bliss.

He worked as an Andy Frain usher from 1966 to 1968, working in major sporting events, concerts, and festivities in the Chicagoland area including his favorite, "Da Bears." He sold jewelry at Marks Brothers in Chicago from 1968 to 1974. He was employed with Jockey International from 1974 to 1976. In January of 1977, he joined IBP/Denison Hide, now Tyson Fresh Meats, where he held various sales positions. Fred retired at the end of March 2011, after 34 wonderful years, due to health reasons. He was inducted into the Hide Hall of Fame.

In his free time, he enjoyed golf, bowling, dancing with his wife, Suzie, and the Chicago Bears. He loved being involved in his family's activities as much as possible, including coaching soccer, camping and fishing. He was very proud of how his family flourished and matured under his guidance. Fred was a great storyteller, and his gentle presence, keen intelligence, and wicked sense of humor will surely be missed.

He was very proud of his culinary skills of many levels, holding annual feasts in August and November with numerous friends and family members. He enjoyed gathering together in his Sioux City home and his second home in Lake Geneva, Wis., where he spent many summers with his family as a child. He eventually purchased his own "getaway" near the lake.

Fred was an active member of the Church of the Nativity, where he served on the Parish Council, as an usher at Mass, and worked bingo games, and the Friday night Fish Fries.

Fred is survived by his wife, Suzie Locke of Sioux City; daughter, Meghan Locke and her friend, Jeremiah Grimm of Sioux City; sons, Daniel (Ashley) Locke and Kevin Locke, both of Sioux City; brothers, Bill (Sharon) Locke and Tim (Kathy) Locke, both of Chicago; sisters-in-law, Kathy Locke of Chicago, and Diane (Marty) Yost of Gilbert, Ariz.; brother-in-law, Mark (Gay) Tepper of Coppell, Texas; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; his faithful companion, Buck; and his best friend, Tom Kirchmeier.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Mike.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be directed to the family.
