Sioux Cityan Killed in Truck Crash Near Sutherland
Funeral services for Jack Kennedy, 47, 1819 Pierce street, who was killed Saturday morning when the truck he was driving left the highway two and one-half miles west of Sutherland and crashed against the side of a bridge, will be held at 2:30 p. m. Monday in the Westcott-Doughty-Chandler funeral chapel. Rev. George C. Pullman, pastor of the First Congregational church, will officiate.
Mr. Kennedy was born February 1, 1889, in Ceresco, Neb. He resided in Sioux City for 17 years.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lillian Fern Kennedy; a son, James, of Topeka, Kan.; three sons, John, Eugene and William, all of Sioux City; three daughters, Mrs. Willis Cuehn of Fargo, N. D., and Miss Katherine and Miss Bonnie Kennedy, both of Sioux City.
Kennedy, who was manager of a beer distribution agency at Sheldon, was believed to have been on his way to Sheldon when the accident occurred. Dr. E. B. Getty, deputy coroner of O'Brien county, who investigated the accident, said that Kennedy evidently fell asleep while driving and lost control of the truck.
The physician said that Kennedy was thrown clear of the truck by the impact, being hurled about 25 feet through the air and landing on the concrete pavement. Death was caused by a broken neck and a crushed chest.
Kennedy was the father of Jack Kennedy, star football player at Central high school last year.
Several months ago he was indicted with Clyde Mayer for alleged conspiracy in the operation of slot machines.
Mayer now in the Lutheran hospital as the result of an auto accident in which he was injured last week.
