3 November 1986LE MARS, Iowa — Ward Batman,78, of Le Mars died Sunday in a hospital in Le Mars.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Calvary United Methodist Church in Le Mars. The Rev. Kenneth Royar will officiate. Burial will be in Le Mars Memorial Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 7-8:30 p.m. today in the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars.
Mr. Batman was born Feb. 13, 1908, in Holly Springs. He graduated from Holly Springs High School and Morningside College with a bachelor of arts degree. He taught and coached at Clarinda for 11 years and worked for Armour & Co. for four years in Sioux City. In 1945 he purchased a grocery store and operated as Batman Grocery until 1948. He then became a farm manager. He married Frances Slusberger June 25, 1934, in Sioux City. He married Irene Hull Aug. 13, 1963, in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Mr. Batman was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Elks Lodge, Le Mars Country Club, Iowa Academy of Science, and a former member of Le Mars and Plymouth County Planning and Zoning Commission and Morningside Symphony Orchestra. He played in the Sioux City Monahan Post Band in 1930.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Nile of Le Mars, and two grandchildren.
A memorial has been established in his name with the Cancer Fund.
