BRONSON, Iowa — Merrill R. Strong, 83, of Bronson died Friday in a Sioux City hospital after a long illness.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Christy Morningside Funeral Home in Sioux City. The Rev. Wright Strong, a brother, and the Rev. Galen D. Bennett of Climbing Hill (Iowa) Nazarene Church will officiate. Burial will be in Westfork Township Cemetery, Climbing Hill. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

Mr. Strong was born June 26, 1902, in Climbing Hill and moved to Bronson at the age of 3. He graduated from Bronson High School. He married Lucille Deppe June 23, 1932, in Inwood, Iowa. He was a rural mail carrier for 42 years, retiring in 1965.

Mr. Strong was secretary of the Woodbury County Rural Mail Carrier's Association for many years. He was a charter member of the Climbing Hill Nazarene Church where he was a Sunday School teacher and Bible teacher for more than 50 years. He served as treasurer of the Bronson School Board for many years.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Rolland of Sioux City; a sister, Mrs. Elsie Wikstrom of Hornick, Iowa; three brothers, Joy of El Cajon, Calif., Warren and the Rev. Wright, both of Cave Creek, Ariz.; two grandsons and a great-grandson
