William Lewis, 80, Expires Here After Four-Month IllnessWilliam Lewis, 409, 23d street, 80-year-old former post office employee, died Tuesday morning in a hospital after an illness of four months.
Mr. Lewis was born February 9, 1866, in Fort Atkinson, Wis. When a child he came with his parents to Iowa and they located on a homestead in Clay county. He married Annie Bowen May 28, 1892, in Peterson, Ia. He came here in 1902 and was employed at the Sioux City post office from that time until his retirement in 1931.
He was a member of Abu-Bekr shrine, a charter
member of the shrine band; a member of Knights Templar, Columbian commandery 18; Royal Arch Masons 26, Landmark lodge A. F. & A. M. and a life member of the Sioux City Musician's' union.Surviving are the widow, Annie; a son Clarence E., of Sioux City; a daughter, Mrs. Anita Anderson and a granddaughter, Lenita Anderson of Chicago; two brothers, Ned Lewis of Linn Grove, Ia., and Henry of Regina, Canada, and a sister, Mrs. Susie Perry of Linn Grove. A daughter, Mrs. Berneca Hoag, died in 1924.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Westcott-Doughty-Chandler chapel. Rev. S. D. Huff of First Baptist church will officiate.
Interment will be in Graceland Park cemetery where Masonic services will be conducted under the direction of Landmark lodge.
