30 December 2003Edith Frances Deaver, 98, of Sioux City died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at Sunrise Retirement Community in Sioux City.
Memorial services will be at a later date. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Edith was born Aug. 20, 1905, in Wahoo, Neb., to Joseph and Antonia Pokorny. The family moved to Sidney, Neb., where her mother died when she was 9 years old. Her two younger sisters were adopted by the Semenec family of Wahoo. About a year later, her older brother died. She attended school through the ninth grade.
On Aug. 25, 1923, she married Louis Andrew Deaver in Cheyenne, Wyo. Six daughters were born to the couple. They lived in Portland, Ore., Washington state, Sidney, Neb., and New Plymouth, Idaho. They farmed near Belgrade, Neb., before moving to Primrose, Neb., Columbus, Neb., and then Omaha, where they lived for about 20 years. After the death of her husband in 1972, she lived with one or another of her daughters.
She enjoyed crocheting, quilting and oil painting.
She is survived by five daughters, Thelma (Bob) Pinnow of Orangeville, Ill., Katherine (Paul) Calhoun of Sioux City, Frances (John) Guthals of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Jane Cramer of Altamonte Springs, Fla., and Mary (Victor) Taylor of Omaha; 23 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Louis Deaver, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Doris Ann Deaver.
