23 December 2003Michael Anthony Whittier, 46, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital, where he had been a patient for five weeks.
Memorial services will be 2:30 p.m. today at the Sioux City Gospel Mission. The Rev. Jim Scallions, pastor and director of the Gospel Mission, Harold Youtzy, board chairman of the Gospel Mission, and the Rev. Jim Lahne, interim pastor at Northside Alliance Church, will officiate. Friends are asked to attended the burial at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Michael was born July 24, 1957, in Woodbury County, Sioux City. The son of Alden Whittier of St. Paul. Minn., and Esther Margaret Sulsey of Ward County, N.D., both preceded him in death.
He graduated from Heelan High School and attended Barber College. He worked as a security guard for a while. In 1983 he came to the Mission and worked at various positions including, driver, deskman, and for many years as evening chaplain. For a number of years he was the Saturday night engineer and put the Mission on the air at KTFC Gospel Radio.
The Mission was his family. His church family was the Northside Alliance Church, where he was a member.
