SERGEANT BLUFF | Phyllis Jean Cook, 85, of Sergeant Bluff passed away Friday, April 4, 2014, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Shepherd of Peace Lutheran Church in Sergeant Bluff, with the Rev. Tim Schiller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa. Phyllis Jean Cook was born on June 25, 1928, the daughter of James and Edith (Christensen) Godfredson, at their farm home near Sergeant Bluff. Phyllis was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church. She attended school in Salix, Iowa, and graduated from Salix High School in 1946.

On April 16, 1947, she married Gene G. Cook at the Little Brown Church in the Vail in Nashua, Iowa. Phyllis and Gene made their home in rural Sergeant Bluff, where Gene farmed and Phyllis was a farm wife and mother. She worked at the Sergeant Bluff Elementary School, various commission firms at the Sioux City Stockyards, and at a chiropractic office in Sergeant Bluff. They moved from the country to their home in Sergeant Bluff in 2004. Phyllis joined Gene at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting in the summer of 2012. Gene passed away on Nov. 13, 2013, at Pleasant View Care Center.

Phyllis was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Sergeant Bluff. Phyllis and Gene loved their coffee and breakfast friends after they retired. Gene and Phyllis thoroughly enjoyed the care and support that they received at Pleasant View.

She is survived by her son, Conrad and his wife, Cindy of Hartley, Iowa; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Loraine Godsey of Sloan, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; her son, Dennis Cook; a brother, Chet Godfredson; and a sister, Wilma Dantsler.

The family wishes to express their appreciation and say thank you to everyone at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting for taking such good care of Phyllis.
