13 April 2014SIOUX CITY | Rod Siljenberg, 60, of Sioux City, died unexpectedly Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Rod was born June 25, 1953, in Sioux City, the son of Gilmore Siljenberg and Donna (Hedges) Houts. He attended Central High School. He received an Associate of Applied Science degree from Western Iowa Tech Community College.
He began his career with Parkinson Music in Sioux City. In 1989, he became the instructor of band instrument repair at Western Iowa Tech Community College. He retired from that position in 2009. He then became the full-time proprietor of Siljenberg's Musical Repair Shop in Sioux City. He served the community through his gift of keeping music alive.
Rod was passionate about music. He was active in the local music scene, playing guitar with a number of orchestras and bands in the area. He enjoyed teaching piano to his grandson and playing Beatles tunes for his family.
Survivors include his wife, Janell Kay (Bradley) Siljenberg of Sioux City; children, Craig (Becky) Siljenberg of Osage City, Kan., Jill (Steve) Schumacher of Omaha, and Jenny (Eric) Moore of Sioux City; grandchildren, Ethan Moore, Sophia Moore, Cameron Siljenberg and Parker Schumacher; and two siblings.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Guy Siljenberg; and his best buddy, Bernie.
