Ruth Kerr Berry, 99, of Sioux City, formerly of Murphysboro, Ill., died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003 at a Sioux City nursing home.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro.

Ruth Berry was born Nov. 4, 1904 in Roosevelt, Okla., to Dr. Wesley Bibb and Paulina (Gideon) Kerr. At an early age, the family moved to Southeast Missouri and then moving to Murphysboro in 1942, where she resided until moving to Sioux City in 1992.

She married Samuel Elmer Berry on May 18, 1929. He was killed in a railway accident on April 1, 1953.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Samuel N. and Delpha Berry of Half Moon Bay, Calif. and Gordon and Mary Berry of Sioux City; a daughter, Marilyn and her husband, William Grigsby, of Avondale, Ariz.; five grandsons; a granddaughter; four great-granddaughters; and a great-grandson.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Benton Kerwin Berry.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Benton K. Berry Memorial Scholarship, Southern Illinois University Foundation
