Maybelle Leckband, 87, of Sioux City died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at her residence following a brief illness.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mayflower Congregational United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Rayann Burnham Cummings officiating. The body will be cremated. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Maybelle was born April 3, 1916, to Otto and Pearl (Smith) Skoglund. She attended Sioux City schools, graduating from St. Joseph's Commercial School in 1933. She received recognition as a stenographer and in shorthand, doing 100 words per minute.

She married George F. "Bud" Leckband on Dec. 19, 1937, in Elk Point, S.D. They lived in McCook Lake, S.D., prior to moving to Sioux City in 1948. She worked in the lunchroom at Heelan High School and did product survey work for different companies. Her life revolved around her family, being a homemaker and a secretary/bookkeeper for family businesses, retiring from Leckband Well Inc. in 1982.

Mr. Leckband passed away March 3, 1995, in Sioux City.

She loved working with arts, crafts and in the flower gardens. She was a very giving person. The couple lived for their son, grandsons and great-grandkids. They followed and supported their son in drag racing, stock car racing and motorcycles. The grandsons held their interest while racing motorcycles and in school sports. They seldom missed an event with a grandchild or great-grandchild involved and she had a particular love for baseball.

She is survived by her son and his wife, George R. and Betty Leckband of Sioux City; two grandsons, George R. Jr. "Rob" and his wife, Tiffney, and Bradley B. and his special friend, Tiffany Laumbach, all of Sioux City; five great-grandchildren, Corey, Casie, Alisa, Tracer and Braden, all of Sioux City; and a sister, Dorothy March of Sioux City.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a twin sister, Lulabelle; a sister, Beatrice Mulheron; and a brother, John Skoglund.
