6 December 2003Myron L. "Mike" Sherman, 93, of McHenry, Ill., formerly of Sioux City, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at George R. Justen and Son Funeral Home in McHenry, with the Rev. Jan Parsons Comerford officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Sherman was born April 3, 1910, in Campbell, Minn., to George and Mamie (Lewis) Sherman. He married Ency M. Wilcox on Aug. 2, 1928. Formerly of Sioux City, he had been a resident of McHenry since 1984.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 48 years as a switchman and yardman for the former Northern Railroad in Sioux City and as a terminal supervisor for the Northern Railroad in Superior, Wis. He retired as trainmaster for Burlington Northern Railroad in St. Cloud, Minn.
In June 1993, he became a 50-year member of Morningside Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. 615 in Sioux City. He was a past Patron member of Order of the Eastern Star Morningside Chapter 502 in Sioux City. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in McHenry.
He is survived by a daughter, Betty (the late Peter) Nickle of Prospect Heights, Ill.; four grandchildren, Brenda (Robert) Hisel of Johnsburg, Ill., Valerie (Henry) Saha of Mount Prospect, Ill., Scott (Jean) Nickle of Arlington Heights, Ill., and Hugh Nickle of Rolling Meadows, Ill.; three great-grandchildren, Brian Hisel, Peter Nickle and Jack Nickle; and a special friend, Sylvia M. Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ency on March 27, 1987; his parents; two brothers, Art and Harry Sherman; and two sisters, Helen and Libby.
