9 April 2014SIOUX CITY | Orval O. Dye, 96, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kenny Hsu officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Orval, the son of Omer and Lena (Hine) Dye, was born on Jan. 6, 1918, in Lake Benton, Minn. He received his schooling at Sioux City schools. Orval honorably served his country in the U.S. Army, where he graduated from aerial tech. He was very proud of his World War II accomplishments.
Orval married Constance Erickson on July 28, 1942 in Sioux City. After their marriage, they spent several years in South Dakota and Washington before returning to Sioux City in 1956. Orval retired from Armour in 1979.
He was an avid woodworker and craftsmen. Orval loved gardening. He was great at any handyman activity. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Orval is survived by his children, John Dye of Sioux City, and Susan (Phil) Wathen of Escondido, Calif.; six grandchildren, Bryan (Sarah) Dye of Edina, Minn., Jill (Corey Gilmore) Dye of Sioux City, Travis (Angie) Dye of Kingsley, Iowa, Kortney Dye of Des Moines, Mindy (Jason Courtney) Dye of Sioux City, and Danny (Megan) Wagner of Wisconsin; and eight great-grandchildren, Adam, Lauren, Ayden, Addison, Allison, Emma, Owen, and Mason.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Constance; one son, Orval Lee "Pete"; three sisters, Evelyn, Laverne, and Geraldine; and one daughter-in-law, Mary.
