23 May 1998John R. Scheitler, 64, of Sioux City died Thursday, May 21, 1998, at his home of an apparent heart attack.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Assumption Catholic Church in Merrill, Iowa, with the Rev. Richard Ball officiating. Burial will be in St. Catherine's Catholic Cemetery in Oyens, Iowa. Visitation will be noon until the time of the service, at the church. Feuerstein Funeral Home of Le Mars, Iowa, is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Scheitler was born Feb. 11, 1934, in Plymouth County, Iowa, the son of Leo and Della (Kramer) Scheitler. He grew up in the Oyens and Le Mars area, attended St. Catherine's Elementary School in Oyens, and graduated from Gehlen Catholic High School in Le Mars. He then attended seminary school at St. John's University. He also attended N.B.T. in Sioux City. He was employed in the restaurant business, working for The Town and Country, The Club Cafe, and TH Cafe in Le Mars.
In the early 1960s he moved to Sioux Falls S.D., where he owned and operated several restaurants including, The Rolling Pin, Cracked Pot, and Country Grill. He moved to Sioux City in the late 1980s where he managed the Green Gables Restaurant and was employed at the Marina Inn Restaurant and Timothy's.
Survivors include two brothers, Jim and his wife, Lois, of Le Mars, and Tom of Sioux City; two nephews; two nieces; and five great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gerald.
