7 February 2014SIOUX CITY | Lyle K. O'Donnell, 68, of Casa Grande, Ariz., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at his home after a brief illness.
Private family services were held at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel in Sioux City. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery. Condolences may be sent online at www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Lyle was born on Aug. 27, 1945, in Sioux City, the son of Joseph O'Donnell and Marie (Ducommun) O'Donnell. He grew up with 10 brothers and sisters. He graduated from Central High School, then received his associate’s degree in food technology.
In 1963, he married Marilyn Engel. They had a daughter, Kim. Lyle joined the Iowa Air National Guard and served from 1974 to 1980. He was a sergeant with the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Department from 1969 to 1978. Lyle was an enforcement investigations analysis officer for the USDA, FSIS and MPID for 20 years and retired in 2006. He lived in multiple locations due to the nature of his job.
He was a member of the Casa Grande Elks Club.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Kim and Dave Russell of La Jolla, Calif.; three granddaughters, Christy and Nicole Russell of La Jolla, and Ashley and her husband, Jon Warnicki of Hawaii; two great-grandchildren, Aurora and Oliver of Hawaii; former wife, Marilyn O'Donnell; three brothers, Jim O'Donnell of Sioux City, Gary O'Donnell of Idaho, and Tom O'Donnell of Sioux City; four sisters, Charlene Kirk of Salix, Iowa, Jeanette Wilson of Sioux City, Marty Meisner of South Sioux City, and Carla Schlines of Sioux City; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Joseph O'Donnell Jr. and Robert O'Donnell; and a sister, Betty Sembach.
In lieu of flowers, the memorial fund will go to his favorite charity, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
