28 March 2002Charles I. Schirm, 60, of Sioux City, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at his residence.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Russell Senstad of Redeemer Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation will be 3 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Additional services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 3 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids.
Mr. Schirm was born Oct. 12, 1941, in Newhall, Iowa, the son of Irvin and Zenolia (Meier) Schirm. He was raised in Newhall. He was baptized into faith on Nov. 9, 1941 and confirmed on April 3, 1955, at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall. He graduated from Newhall Public Schools.
He lived in Cedar Rapids for over 20 years, working for the Collins Co. (Rockwell Collins Co. presently), before moving to Sioux City about 25 years ago. He had managed Country Kitchen Restaurants for awhile, then purchased and operated the Paxton Tap in Sioux City for over 20 years.
He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and was an avid cribbage player and golfer. He loved to play baseball in his early years.
Survivors include his mother, Zenolia Schirm of Newhall; a son, Brian Schirm of Cedar Rapids; a sister and her husband, Delores and Lynn Pickering of Newhall; a brother and his wife, Harold and Rosemarie Schirm; a very special companion, Joy Carrigan of Sioux City; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Irvin; a son, Jeffrey Schirm; and a nephew, Mark Pickering.
