Madonna C. Meinen, 86, of Sioux City died Friday, Nov. 7, 2003, at Holy Spirit Assisted Living Unit.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Steven W. Brodersen officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6:15 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Morningside Funeral Home.

Mrs. Meinen, the former Madonna Catherine Cantin, was born on May 14, 1917, in Jefferson, S.D., the daughter of Victor and Odile (Provost) Cantin. The family moved to Sioux City when Madonna was 2 years old. She attended Sacred Heart Grade School in Sioux City, graduated from Cathedral High School, followed by one year of nursing training at St. Joseph's School of Nursing.

She married Joseph H. Meinen on Nov. 26, 1946, in Sioux City. Mr. Meinen died on Dec. 26, 1997, in Sioux City. She worked at Cecelia Park Drug Store and then for Soo Transportation Co. in the office until her retirement in 1982.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Church Altar Society and the Carmelite Auxiliary. Madonna was an avid reader and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Larry and Gail Meinen of Sioux City, and Kirk and Brenda Meinen of Dittmer, Mo.; five grandchildren, Jeff and his wife, Missy, Marie, Michael, Matthew and his wife, Kristen, and Amanda Meinen; a great-granddaughter, Aubri Meinen; three sisters, Sr. Jeanne Ann Cantin, O.S.F. of Dubuque, Iowa, Boots Casey of Sioux City, and Bernice Crane of Sioux City.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Freeman Cantin; and a sister, Elaine Thompson.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

A memorial in her name has been established for Immaculate Conception School.
