Michael R. Saccony, 82, of Sioux City died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, at Prairie Estates Care Center in Elk Point, S.D., following a lengthy battle with brain cancer.

The body was cremated and no services are planned. Pearson Funeral Home of Onawa, Iowa, is assisting with arrangements.

Michael R. Saccony was born May 28, 1921, in Sioux City, the son of Sam and Rose Saccony. He served in the U.S. Army for six years during the Korean conflict. Mike was an avid fisherman and loved to play poker.

Survivors include his wife, Sally of Sioux City; a daughter, Joan Saccony of Panorama City, Calif.; a son, Sam Saccony of Panorama City; four sisters, Terry Murphy and Lois Hoelker, both of Sioux City, Fran and her husband, Tom Paulos, and Mary Ann O'Toole, all of Albuquerque, N.M.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ralph Saccony; and a sister, Betty Saccony, both in infancy.
