Emmett R. Anderson, 83, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at a
Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel with the Rev. Del Olivier of Augustana Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Sergeant Floyd Post 1973. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Anderson was born June 10, 1918, in Martinsburg, Neb. He served as a paratrooper with the U.S. Army, 83rd Infantry Division. He parachuted into Normandy during the invasion on D-Day. He received the Silver Star Medal. He worked for many years with Sioux Tools and Rochester Products.

He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Sergeant Floyd Post 1973 and American Legion.

Survivors include a brother, Lavern Anderson of Virginia; a niece and her husband, Catherine Baker-Steinhauer and Richard of Bellevue, Neb.; and three nephews, Gordon and Harry Anderson, both of North Carolina and Robert Anderson of Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Nancy Baker.

Memorials may be directed to Veterans of Foreign Wars Sergeant Floyd Post 1973.
