CORRECTIONVILLE, Iowa -- Doris N. Briese, 81, of Correctionville died Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon, Iowa, with the Rev. Michael Briese and Clifton Cockburn officiating. Burial will be in the Correctionville Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be after 4 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7: p.m. followed by an Eastern Star service, at the funeral home.

Doris Nadine Briese was born May 27, 1928, in rural Correctionville, the daughter of Fred Alexander and Sadie Alice (Harrison) Jacobs. She grew up in the area and graduated from Correctionville High School with the class of 1946, where she also completed normal training. She taught school in the Correctionville area and worked in Sioux City at the Jackson Hotel, Palmer Candy and the Johnson Bakery.

On May 8, 1947, Doris was united in marriage to Fred A. Briese at the Church of Christ Parsonage in Correctionville. The couple's life work was in farming. They bought a farm west of Correctionville in 1952, where they raised their six children. The couple had remained on the farm.

Doris became a member of the Order of Eastern Star in 1946, and served actively over a 63 year period. Fred and Doris owned and operated the Correctionville Produce and Clothing from 1962 to 1974, and they have been Watkins Distributors for 22 years. She enjoyed crocheting, dancing and gaming, however, her greatest accomplishments were found in the loving dedication she demonstrated in the lives of her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Those survivors left to cherish their memories of Doris include Fred, her husband of 62 years; her children, Linda O'Connell and her husband, Dennis of Phoenix, Ariz., Paul Briese and his wife, Marchelle and Brian Briese and his wife, Pamela, all of Correctionville; Patricia Briese of Arnolds Park, Iowa, Peggy Briese and her husband, Jeff Schroeder of Omaha and Lori Briese and Bill Warner of Phoenix, Ariz.; dear family friends, Roger and Beulah Sand of Anthon, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Amy O'Connell Kirby and her husband, Matt of Portland. Ore., Jennifer Briese Back and her husband, Jacob of Plano, Texas, Shannon Briese Fredricksen and her husband, Travis of Fort Atkinson, Wis., David Briese of Correctionville, Nicholas Schroeder and Margaret Schroeder both of Omaha and Samuel Briese of Correctionville; three great-granddaughters, Carina and Ciera Kirby of Portland, Ore., and Emily Back of Plano, Texas; and a sister-in-law, Wanda Jacobs of Correctionville; along with numerous nieces and nephews and many good friends and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Sadie (Harrison) Jacobs; a grandson, Nathan Briese; two brothers, Clifford and Wayne Jacobs; and a sister-in-law, Wilma Page Jacobs.
