SIOUX CITY | Dean W. Widner, 56, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at a local hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Morningside Assembly Of God Church, with Pastor Johnny Helton officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.

Dean was born on July 18, 1956, in Sioux City, the son of Harold and Josephine (Taft) Widner. He attended North High School and received his degree in telecommunications through Western Iowa Tech Community College in 1990.

Dean married Barb Coil on June 7, 1980, in Sioux City. To this union three girls were born. Dean worked for KMEG for 12-plus years as a master control operator.

He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching football and Star Trek. Dean also loved animals and joking with his family. He had a special relationship with God and was a member of Morningside Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include his wife, Barb of Sioux City; three daughters, Rachel and husband, Edgar Espinoza of Rio Grande, Texas, Sarah Widner of Sioux City, and Leah Widner of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two granddaughters, Deanna and Ava Espinoza; his twin brother, Dennis (Heidi) Widner of Sioux City; sisters, Judy Douglas of Sioux City, Linda Kane of Sioux City, JoEllen (Gil) Nelson of Sioux City, Bonnie (Phil) Nolen of Sioux City, Mary (Owen) Weibel of Yankton, S.D., and Nancy (Warren) Baker of Sioux City; and brothers, Patrick (Gloria) Widner of Davis, Calif., Art Widner of Valley Center, Calif., Bruce Widner of Sioux City, David (Mayra) Widner of Escondido, Calif., and Christopher (Bessy) Widner of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Josie Widner; and a brother, Bud Widner.

The family wishes to thank Dean’s doctors, nurses, and caregivers for their wonderful care during this difficult time.
