CORRECTIONVILLE, Iowa | Donald B. Benson, 85, of Lexington Park, Md., formerly of Correctionville, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 15, 2013.

Graveside services will be 12:15 p.m. Sunday in Flohrs Lutheran Church Cemetery in McKnightstown, Pa., with the Rev. Stephen Herr of the historic Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gettysburg, Pa., officiating. The Adams County Allied Veterans Association will provide full military honors. Mr. Benson was born in Mission Hill, S.D., and grew up in Correctionville. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Salem Lutheran Church in rural Correctionville. He achieved the rank of corporal after serving honorably with the U. S. Army Signal Corps during the Korean War.

After his service he returned home where he met and married Anita Jane Lindsey of Sioux City. They celebrated 58 years of marriage on May 5, 2013 at the nursing home where they both resided.

Mr. Benson is survived by his loving wife, Anita; his son, Barry; his daughter, Cheryl Dunlap and her husband Tom; three grandchildren, Tina, Robert and Jinnie; seven great-grandchildren, Alexis, Tom, Mackenzie, Madison, Riley, Ethan and Payton; his sister, Dorothy Struve; and his brother, Marvin Benson and his wife Norma of Pierson, Iowa.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Ernest, Bernard and Norma.

Honorary pallbearers will be his son, Barry, grandson, Robert Morgan, great-grandsons, Riley Morgan, Tom and Payton Birman, Ethan Addington, brother, Marvin and his nephews, Brad Benson, Mark Benson, Rick Benson, Robert Clausen, Tom Clausen, William Clausen, Dan Struve and Doyle Struve.
